– Trekking footwear, high/mid-calf boots or approach shoes, with a good sole (footwear may be exclusionary in cases of wet ground, ice or snow).

Description of the excursion

This exclusive excursion begins in the Puerto Chucao area, a strategic location within Los Alerces National Park. The adventure starts by crossing the iconic footbridge over the Arrayanes River, where the emerald green of the water hints at the purity of what lies ahead. After an easy hike along the banks of the Menéndez River, we embark on a 40-minute boat trip across the waters of Lake Menéndez. From the boat, the views of the snow-capped peaks and the surrounding rainforest are a spectacle in themselves.

Upon disembarking in Puerto Nuevo, the experience transforms into a physical and mental challenge. We begin a challenging trek, designed for those seeking an intimate connection with the wildest and most pristine nature. The trail first immerses us in the density of the Valdivian Forest, an ancient ecosystem where ferns, mosses, and unique tree species create an unparalleled atmosphere.

As we gain altitude during the approximately two-hour ascent, the landscape changes. We leave the dense vegetation behind to follow a mountain stream with icy, crystal-clear water, listening to its murmur all the way to its source. The highlight of the hike is reaching the summit at Laguna del Antiguo. This mirror-like body of water, with its deep turquoise hue, sits at the very base of the Torrecillas Glacier. To be there is to witness the magnitude of an ice giant hanging from the mountain, a silent witness to thousands of years that offers, with its calving events and intense blue waters, the perfect reward for an unforgettable day of exploration.
